At Forge Construction, we specialize in custom residential projects right here in the Birmingham area—think renovations, additions, kitchens, and unique specialty builds. We were founded in 2021 by John Davis, who spent years working with one of the top contractors in town before deciding to start something of his own. John saw a real need for a construction company that not only delivers high-quality work but also treats smaller and mid-sized custom projects with the same care and professionalism as larger builds.

Our Approach is simple: we collaborate closely with architects, designers, and homeowners from day one. We listen, plan, and problem-solve—together—so the final result reflects your vision and fits your timeline and budget. At Forge, we’re all about building trust just as much as we’re about building beautiful homes.

OUR PROCESS

We deliver exceptional craftsmanship and build lasting relationships through quality-focused remodels, additions, and custom homes. We prioritize quality over quantity, focusing on healthy, enduring spaces created through clear communication, transparency, and deep respect for our clients’ time and investment.

We start every project with an initial consultation to ensure it’s a strong fit. From there, we move into a Pre-Construction Services Agreement, where we define your scope, build a detailed budget, align with your architect or designer, and prepare everything needed for a smooth build—from finish selections to permitting.

THOUGHTFUL PLANNING

During construction, we manage every detail—from materials and labor to scheduling and communication—while keeping you updated through our client portal. We primarily work under fixed-price contracts with allowances but offer cost-plus when appropriate.

SEAMLESS EXECUTION

Once your project is complete, we conduct a final walkthrough, handle any final details, and provide close-out documentation. We stay available for ongoing support, ensuring lasting confidence in your investment.

  • Because each of our projects are custom, timelines can vary. During our Pre-Construction Process, we work closely with you to build an accurate schedule up front—so you’ll know exactly what to expect before construction begins. On average, our projects take between 3 to 12 months from start to finish.

  • We specialize in architect- and designer-led remodels, additions, and new custom homes. We’re passionate about working on projects that are unique, creative, and technically challenging.

  • We do not provide complimentary written estimates. Due to the custom nature of our work and the many variables involved—from finish selections to site conditions—creating an accurate proposal requires thoughtful planning and detailed analysis. Our Pre-Construction Services are designed to clearly define the scope of work and deliver a reliable, tailored estimate for your project.

  • We primarily use fixed-price contracts with allowances. During Pre-Construction, we focus on finalizing fixture and finish selections and evaluating existing conditions so we can minimize change orders and unexpected costs once the project begins. That said, we’re happy to work on a cost-plus basis when it makes more sense for the project.

  • While we don’t offer in-house design services, we manage every other aspect of your project from start to finish. This can include surveys, engineering, permit fees, purchasing finish materials, all labor and construction materials, professional project management, insurance, and access to our client portal for real-time updates through our project management software.

  • Most of our work is in Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia, and Hoover, but we serve clients throughout the Birmingham Metro Area. We also take on projects at Lake Martin, Smith Lake, and in other select areas outside the Metro.
